GTX 1060 - good choice for 4k video editing?
Main Post:
I'm looking for a very quiet graphics card with a decent spec and I'm having difficulty making sense of all the options available. I don't use my PC for games any more, but I do a lot of editing in Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop. My current PC has a GeForce 9600 GT on a PCIe 2.0 motherboard (Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5) I recently tried to run DaVinci Resolve but it doesn't seem to be willing to run on my graphics card, and I'm only getting limited performance from the software that was bundled with a 360-degree camera I just bought.
Right now I have 2 x 24" monitors @ 1920 x 1280 on DVI connectors but am likely to build a new PC at some point in the next 2 or 3 years, and upgrade to 2 x 27" 4k monitors, so I would like to buy something that will work well with that setup.
I'm thinking of buying an MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. Is this overkill? Would a lesser card such as a GTX 1050 be enough for my needs?
Top Comment: 1060 should be good. 4k video editing leans more on the CPU and RAM (32GB is optimal).
fp vs fp L - best choice for hobbyist video and adapted lenses?
Main Post:
Deliberating between getting an fp or an fp L. The fp would obviously be much cheaper, and I don't really print photos much, so I would probably be pretty happy with 24mp - all my current photos are that resolution.
Biggest advantage of the fp L seems to be much better moire/aliasing control, and a bit better dynamic range. The original fp is more tried and true, and has better readout speed.
Any thoughts on which is better in the real world? Especially curious about aliasing and how often that's a problem on the fp, as that can be tricky to cleanup, especially in video.
I'm a hobbyist, so don't necessarily need the absolute pinnacle of video performance. But really like the flexibility and long term archival quality of having raw footage in 4k, especially for nature video. I'm also drawn to Sigma's excellent color science.
I've played around with a few fp L samples, and to be honest, the resolution benefit isn't immediately obvious vs the original fp. So I'm wondering if it's really worth it for me. Primary use would be stills, with some video as well. My other concern is that adapted lenses may not perform as well with the higher resolution sensor. The fp was heralded as being a great option for vintage M mount glass, not sure how the fp L is with those lenses.
Appreciate any insight you can share, I feel it's most helpful to get input from users rather than test charts and reviewers who focus only on specs like readout speed.

The most 2009 video game choice

AP video hub (live choice) vs Reuters difference?
Main Post:
What are actually the differences when it comes to live content coming from Reuters or AP? As example: Are they having the same feeds or are they asking for exclusivity?
Top Comment: from my experience - in a general sense, AP has a lot more domestic U.S. coverage vs Reuters. The sources for a ton of AP live choice feeds is Broadcast pool, almost as more of a distribution outlet. But you still need to be a paying member of Pool if you want access to those feeds. Non-pool feeds are often provided by stringers or other in-house providers.I think AP is a bit more costly IIRC. Reuters seems like their trying to get more involved in the domestic U.S. market to compete head to head with AP but seems like, as of this past year, they had much more intl content.
Might be an unpopular choice, but Hollywood Video?
Main Post:
It was closer than Blockbuster and always seemed to have the latest releases more readily available than Blockbuster.

When I was 18 I moved in with two roommates, couldn't afford cable, so I used Hollywood Videos "5 movies for 5 days for $5" as kind of my default cable.
